The Inauguration of ‘The Buchanan’ J. Michael Baillie-Hamilton Buchanan, 7th to the 10th October 2022. Callander Scotland.
The Inauguration is a significant historic event that, after more than 300 years, Lord Lyon has identified J. Michael Baillie-Hamilton Buchanan as the new Hereditary Clan Chief following on from the last Buchanan Clan Chief who died in 1682.
The Buchanan Clan are hosting a significant historic event recognising The Buchanan as the Clan Chief.
‘Buchanans’ or any of the Clan sept names recognised by the Clan, are invited to attend. A full list of Sept names is available here
The format will follow historic protocols of Celtic ceremony to maintain the traditions of former Buchanan chiefs.
Events for the inauguration will commence on the 7th of October and continue to the 10th of October 2022.
The event activities are ticketed events and will require pre-registration and payment in advance.
Ticket sales will be available through trybooking when details are finalised.
Friday 7th October
Golf
Buchanan Castle Estates in Drymen will host a ‘Buchanan Clan’ social golf tournament at Buchanan Castle Golf Course in the morning.
A light lunch at 2 pm in the Buchanan Castle Golf Course club house will be available for those who have booked in for the event.
Time: 9 am – 3 pm
Saturday 8th October
Inauguration
The Clan Chief Inauguration ceremony will be conducted in the walled garden nestled in the shadows of Cambusmore Manor on the Cambusmore Estate. There will be a procession leading the official party from the manor house to the walled garden followed by the ceremony.
Time: 9am – 11am

A light lunch will be provided followed by talks and tours of the estate.
Time: 12 noon – 4pm
There are 4 hours where you can head into Callander for a meal, have a look around Cambusmore, get changed or maybe partake in a few games…
Traditional ceilidh
Later in the evening you are invited to a traditional ceilidh at Cambusmore, where a local band and Buchanan Family callers will help you reel the night away. This is a time to flick up your kilt, kick up your heals and enjoy the Scottish traditions of ceilidh dancing.
The function will be a “bring your own” drink evening with a light supper provided as the evening draws on.

Sunday 9th October
Clan Parliament
There will be a solemn spiritual service at the Cambusmore Chapel
Time: 9 am – 9:30 am
A procession from to the walled garden on Cambusmore estate for the first Buchanan Clan Parliament for more than 300 years.
Time: 10 am – 12 noon
This will be followed by a light lunch, talks and possible guided tours of the clan seat and local historical sites.
Time: 12:30pm – 5:30 pm
Formal “3 Feathers” Dinner
In the evening we conclude the formal proceedings of the weekend with a dinner in the walled garden of Cambusmore. The dinner provides another opportunity to get to know other Clan members and to celebrate the inauguration.
There will be presentations made by The Buchanan to members of the Buchanan Clan and some light entertainment.
A 2-course set menu will be on offer, with a selection of drinks and wine served with the meal

Monday 10th October
Tours
A day for people to have either guided tours or self guided tours of Buchanan Clan lands which are less known but historically related to The Buchanan and his ancestors.
Lunch at Buchanan Castle Golf Course
A great opportunity to have lunch or afternoon tea at the Buchanan Castle Golf Course club house and to see the ruins of the Auld House, the former home of the Buchanan Chiefs.

The Venue
The inauguration is being held within the secure grounds of the Clan Chief’s estate, “Cambusmore” located on the Stirling Road, (A84), approximately 2 ½ miles south east of the township of Callander, Scotland.
The Inauguration, Clan Parliament, Ceilidh, 3 Feathers Dinner, historic talks and manor house tours will all be held at the venue with the main events being conducting in a limited seating marque contained within the estate’s walled garden.
The golf day, that is held on the Friday, will be a remote event and held at the Buchanan Golf Club which is near the township of Drymen, approximately 20 miles from Callander. On the Monday, there will be an opportunity to visit the Buchanan Golf Club, adjacent to the ruins of Buchanan Auld House and see the remnants of Buchanan Castle.
Restricted numbers
Due to the logistics and capacity of the inauguration marque, the number of attendees are limited.
There are 6 events planned for the inauguration over 4 days from the 7th of October through to the 10th of October. Each event will have a capacity limit and will require separate bookings and payment.
In respect to those who have formally expressed an interest in the inauguration event, those persons will be provided links to the booking system once it is active, prior to the international promotion of the event.
Ticketed entry to all activities
Attendees must have a ticket to attend each event and present that ticket to gate staff before being permitted entry. Non ticket holders will be refused entry.
All pre-purchased ticket sales will close off on the 23rd of September. Tickets may be available after this date, if capacity limits have not been achieved.
Accommodation
It will be up to each attendee to source their own accommodation.
Callander is a small town, approximately 15 miles from Stirling, with a range of hotel and local B&B accommodation. There are a number of small towns within a 20 mile radius or approximately 30 – 45min drive from Callander that also have a range of options from 5 star hotels to more intimate venues.
